british-sign.co.uk began in 2005 as a resource website for people who are learning British Sign Language. The site consists of various resources including illustrations, games, information, and an online course. The main feature of this website is an award winning comprehensive online course called Introducing British Sign Language which has been used by around 400,000 people to learn BSL. The system consists of a WordPress site where learners sign up to the course and a Moodle LMS system which contains the course content – a bridge was created between these systems to so that they can talk to each other for account creation and maintenance. The course is provided on a “Pay it Forward” scheme which allows learners to decide what they feel the resource is worth to them and to suit their own personal circumstances.
